It’s Soweto’s chance to indulge in a wine-tasting fest at the 11th Soweto Wine And Lifestyle Festival this weekend! The festival is being held in  the historic Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication in the heart of Kliptown, Soweto, for the first time, which is sure to add a special vibe to the event.

Over 90 wine producers are heading north to share some of their top wines and vintages. There is a wide choice of food to enjoy at the festival too with pop up restaurants from the likes of Vuyo’s, Sakhumzi Restaurant and an oyster and champagne bar keeping you satiated.

So, so many wines to try, so little time. We asked Wade Bales to handpick three estates that will be exhibiting and highlight one of his fave wines from the farm.

Sjinn White 2013
A barrel fermented and barrel matured Chenin Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne blend.  This vintage was made by the De Trafford team in Stellenbosch, but a winery has been built at the vineyard in time for the 2015 harvest.

Rhebokskloof Estate Viognier 2013
Packed with character, this wine makes a statement with its ripe peach and pineapple perfume and flavours. Full bodied and dry, with a long finish. Definitely one to try if you like dry white wines.

Meerlust Pinot Noir 2013
Long recognised for producing world-class wines, Meerlust Estate has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. This Pinot Noir is wonderfully intense with a youthful purple-ruby appearance. On the palate there are very pure Pinot fruit flavours on entry with red cherry and musk flavours coupled with fresh acidity.
