The Shiraz SA Showcase 2015 has come to Cape Town just in time to beat the winter chill. If you don’t have plans tonight it’s worth heading out to the Cape Town International Convention Centre to taste some of the best examples of South African Shiraz. While bigger wine shows are great to sample a broad range of wines, there’s something to be said for an event that focusses on only one type. You can really get to know it well and compare like for like.

At Wine23 we’re excited to see some of our favourites represented. To help you cut through the clutter tonight, we’ve selected three very diverse examples of Shiraz that are represented at the showcase and are available on the Wine23 app. We’d love to hear what you think of them, so don’t forget to rate them!

Creation Syrah, Grenache 2013
Jean-Claude and Carolyn Martin of Creation Wines are pushing the boundaries by being one of the first South African wine makers to introduce Grenache to the blend. The addition has made for a winning marriage. It gives the Creation Syrah Grenache an interesting deep purple, almost black hue.

Eagles’ Nest Shiraz 2012
Eagles Nest Shiraz is one of the most recognised and awarded Shiraz wines from cool climatic Constantia, so it’s no surprise to us to see it represented. It’s a truly great wine from mature vineyards, and will age gracefully for 15 years from vintage. Definitely one you want to add to your cellar.

Groot Constantia Shiraz 2013
Groot Constantia and Boela Gerber have been in the news lately for their slew of international awards. And here again they are coming up trumps with their Shiraz. It looks like experience and winemaker investment are really paying off. This bold red has fine tannin which allows from drinking well in its youth, but also has the potential to mature with time.
